Indian Trail is a town located in Union County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 11,905.

Indian Trail is located at 35°4'12" North, 80°39'16" West (35.069918, -80.654424).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 39.4 km2 (15.2 mi2). 39.3 km2 (15.2 mi2) of it is land and 0.1 km2 (0.04 mi2) of it is water. The total area is 0.26% water.

Indian Trail Demographics:

As of the census of 2000, there are 11,905 people, 4,299 households, and 3,400 families residing in the town. The population density is 303.0/km2 (785.0/mi2). There are 4,581 housing units at an average density of 116.6/km2 (302.0/mi2). The racial makeup of the town is 90.90% White, 5.35% African American, 0.53% Native American, 0.96% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 0.95% from other races, and 1.22% from two or more races. 2.48% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 4,299 households out of which 44.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.7% are married couples living together, 9.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20.9% are non-families. 16.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.77 and the average family size is 3.12.

In the town the population is spread out with 29.9% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 39.4% from 25 to 44, 18.2% from 45 to 64, and 6.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 98.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.1 males.
